Counselling is a process of self-exploration where the client can gain a fresh perspective on the issues and dilemmas with which they are presently facing. These issues are usually the result of an inability to cope successfully with external circumstances which impact on the persons day to day functioning.
Within the therapeutic environment, clients are enabled to clarify and understand difficulties which leave them feeling distressed. Through this identification clients can discover more appropriate behaviours and choices that will encourage positive change and growth.
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment valuable to people suffering emotional and psychological problems. These problems can range from severe to mild psychological disturbances, personality and mood disorders. The psychotherapist facilitates the client in his/her exploration of their inner conflicts, thought process, and behaviours. The process of psychotherapy helps the client discover how past difficulties or traumas maybe impacting on their present state, thus giving the client a deeper understanding and awareness of their distress. With this deeper understanding of “the self” clients can begin to heal and approach their difficulties in a clear and focused manner.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming
Neuro – The mind and how we think Linguistic – Language Programming - How we influence the mind through language.
NLP is an effective and rapid form of psychological therapy which can address a range of problems which therapists are likely to encounter, such as phobias, depression, learning disorders and psychosomatic illnesses. NLP is the study of how the brain codes learning and experience. This coding affects communication, behaviour and how we process information.
NLP can provide you with the tools and skills for effective change in your everyday life.
Behaviour Modification
The behaviour modification programme is designed for parents or guardians who are struggling with their child’s behaviour. Parents are shown how to regain control of what can sometimes seem like an out of control situation with their child. At times it can seem like your child is "out of control", this is usually not the case, in fact your child is likely to be very much "in control", and running the show with excellent results for them!
At the core of the programme is a “no nonsense” yet caring approach to parenting. This is a six-week programme where the therapist works closely with the parents, meeting them on three occasions over the six weeks and closely monitoring the daily progress of the child.
Adolescent Development
The young client is given the space to explore any difficulties they are experiencing in a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment. Adolescence is a busy time with many physical, emotional, and psychological changes taking place. Therapy usually begins by examining the six areas of adolescent development which are as follows:
- Biological
- Emotional
- Interpersonal
- Cognitive
- Educational
- Moral
With all these changes taking place it can be difficult for adolescents to understand their moods and feelings. When their feelings of frustration become overwhelming this is usually when we see negative and concerning behaviors emerging.
For a young person various life issues can seem like impossible tasks to deal with. Very often teenagers can become lost in their feelings, behaviour, and moods. The aim of therapy is to assist them on the journey and show them how to find their way back safely to dry land.
